Fibromyalgia

When Every Doctor Has Run Out of Answers

You've done the rounds. Rheumatologist, neurologist, maybe a pain management referral. The bloodwork keeps coming back normal. Meanwhile you're the one waking up already exhausted, aching in places that don't make sense. Normal labs don't mean nothing is wrong. They mean the test wasn't built to find what's actually happening to you.

You're not imagining it

If you've been told your symptoms are stress, anxiety, or "just fibromyalgia" — as if naming it were the same as explaining it — you're not imagining the dismissal. Fibromyalgia doesn't show up on standard bloodwork or imaging because it isn't tissue damage in the traditional sense. That doesn't make it less real.

Understanding the condition

Your nervous system is amplifying the signal.

Fibromyalgia is increasingly understood as a disorder of pain processing, not pain origin. Your central nervous system amplifies pain signals that wouldn't register as painful in someone without the condition — a touch that should feel like pressure registers as pain instead.

This amplification doesn't happen randomly. It's driven by a nervous system stuck in a heightened state of alert, fed by real, measurable factors: chronic inflammation, unresolved stress load, disrupted sleep architecture, and mitochondrial dysfunction that leaves your body without the cellular energy it needs to complete the healing process.

Inflammation and emotional stress share the same biochemical pathways in the body — which is why fibromyalgia so often includes brain fog, mood changes, and sleep disruption alongside the physical pain. It isn't one system malfunctioning. It's several systems caught in the same feedback loop.

Why nothing has worked

Medication quiets the alarm. It doesn't rewire the system.

Standard care for fibromyalgia typically centers on medications that target the symptom of pain directly — certain antidepressants repurposed for pain modulation, anti-seizure medications, sometimes opioids. These can quiet the alarm.

They don't address why your nervous system is sounding it in the first place. The approach treats fibromyalgia as a fixed neurological glitch to be managed indefinitely, rather than a state your body entered because of identifiable, addressable drivers — and can potentially exit.

My approach

What I actually do differently

I start with a full history and a conversation most patients haven't had: what does a bad day actually look like for you, and what's been happening in your body's inflammatory, stress, and sleep systems in the years leading up to this. For most patients, foundational correction — inflammatory dietary triggers, sleep architecture, nervous system regulation, mitochondrial support — produces meaningful improvement before we discuss any additional testing.

Testing isn't the starting point. If your pattern points to a specific driver that isn't resolving with foundational work, I'll add targeted lab work at that point, not before. Thirty-four years of practice tells me most patients have never had anyone actually map their triggers. That mapping, not a panel, is usually where the real answer is.

From the Magnificent Seven Framework

Fibromyalgia connects directly to Think Right and Sleep Right — the principles that a dysregulated nervous system and disrupted sleep architecture directly amplify pain sensitivity. Calming the stress response and restoring real restorative sleep are foundational to lowering your amplified pain signal. Dr. Bob's approach integrates nervous system regulation with the inflammatory and lifestyle principles from his book Magnificent by Design.

What to Expect

What happens when you call

01

First visit

Full history and a detailed map of your pain pattern, sleep quality, stress load, and known triggers.

02

Foundational plan

Addressing the inflammatory, sleep, and nervous system factors most likely to be amplifying your pain signal.

03

Testing, if indicated

Added only if your response to foundational care points to something specific that needs a closer look.

04

Follow-up and adjustment

We track how your actual days are going, not just what a follow-up panel shows.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions patients ask most

What actually causes fibromyalgia if my labs are normal?

Fibromyalgia is understood as a disorder of pain processing — your central nervous system amplifies signals that wouldn't otherwise register as pain. That amplification is driven by real factors like chronic inflammation, sleep disruption, and nervous system dysregulation, none of which show up on a standard blood panel.

Why did my doctor say everything looks normal?

Standard bloodwork and imaging look for tissue damage and structural abnormality. Fibromyalgia isn't primarily a tissue problem — it's a nervous system processing problem, which requires a different kind of assessment entirely.

Do you run extensive lab testing on every patient?

No. Most patients see real improvement from addressing inflammatory triggers, sleep, and nervous system regulation before we ever discuss lab work. I add targeted testing only when your history and your response to care point to something specific that needs a closer look.

How is this different from what I've already tried?

Most fibromyalgia treatment focuses on medicating the pain signal itself. I start by mapping what's actually driving your nervous system's amplified response and build correction around those specific drivers.

What does the first visit look like?

A full history, a detailed conversation about your pattern of good days and bad days, and a straight explanation of what I think is contributing to it. You'll leave with a plan, not just a label.

How much does a consultation cost?

Consultations are $159 and are always with me directly, not an associate.

Ready to find out what's actually driving your symptoms?

$159 initial consultation and treatment. A real map of your triggers, not another normal lab report.
